120314 - WIP Chameleon Design

A master of camouflage, this enemy will reveal itself to the attentive player before attacking by blinking its target-like eye.  Shoot it before its eye closes or it will surprise you with a hammering blow from its cannonball-like spiked tongue.
This is another piece from what I completed for CTN, an updated rough design for the chameleon enemy that is much closer to the style of the main character. Gosh, I have so much work I did that I need to post; crossing fingers that I can compile it and post once every day for like two weeks, haha.

091914 - Bone Sword Design

*right click and open link in new tab to see image at full size*

A blade that can never truly be broken. Forever growing, this sword of bone becomes denser and stronger every time it is damaged.  It's master can sharpen and shape it to any size desired, or let it continue to slowly grow to near unwieldable lengths.
I have played with so many different possible designs for this concept over time (the sketch on the top left was my very first note I made of the sword), and recently landed on the unique look I was searching for! I wanted the sword to become ridiculously large and aggressive as it grew larger--which would never function as even a sword in reality, but luckily this is fantasy! I think I succeeded.  Hopefully a rough paint of the sword will be ready in the next few weeks--wish me luck!

090914 - Sketchorama' 2.0

*right click and open link in new tab to see image at full size*

Glen Keane is probably my favorite artist when it comes to drawing. He is an excellent character designer and animator, and can imbibe so much personality into every sketch. His linework is incredibly loose and explorative, yet so beautiful at the same time. I have been doing a copy sketch of one of his drawings virtually every day for the last two months--and here are some of my most recent ones! Left: copying a figure sketch digitally (above); right: copying one of Glen's Tarzan sketches with a full graphite pencil. If you are interested, I highly recommend looking his artwork up and doing a few study sketches of your own!

082014 - Sketchorama'

*right click and open link in new tab to see image at full size*
Oh boy, here's one fella' you would not want to be stuck with! Gloomy, hunched over, a little suave I admit, but definitely conceited! Hahaha. I've decided that I am going to start posting the occasional sketch along with my personal project work to liven the blog up a bit! Cheers!

072114 - Wood Sword Design

*right click and open link in new tab to see image at full size*
What would you get if you had to design a wood sword that looked like it could not really be used as a sword? Hopefully something like this! I had an idea a while back for a "sword" made of wood and did a quick little speedpaint of the general concept. I finally had a chance to take that concept and start designing out a couple options of the base before overgrowth is added. I quickly painted the far right option (I like its simple curve, which will be easier to pop into the swordsman's style at a later time) after putting this post together yesterday, so you will be seeing that when I have my next chance to post as well!

040514 - Swordsman Sketches

*right click and open link in new tab to see at a larger size*

Once again, this week's goal was to post any one thing to this blog. Hopefully this will continue to build steam into larger goals each week!
Here are some swordsman sketches in which I am exploring some different stylistic elements and designs. I can feel what I want the general style for this project to be, and will be playing around with more realistic and more stylized designs within this general scope in future sketches. I'm really fond of the character expressed in the left sketch--oh, the glorious hair wisps and the personality they convey.
