091914 - Bone Sword Design

A blade that can never truly be broken. Forever growing, this sword of bone becomes denser and stronger every time it is damaged.  It's master can sharpen and shape it to any size desired, or let it continue to slowly grow to near unwieldable lengths.
I have played with so many different possible designs for this concept over time (the sketch on the top left was my very first note I made of the sword), and recently landed on the unique look I was searching for! I wanted the sword to become ridiculously large and aggressive as it grew larger--which would never function as even a sword in reality, but luckily this is fantasy! I think I succeeded.  Hopefully a rough paint of the sword will be ready in the next few weeks--wish me luck!

090914 - Sketchorama' 2.0

Glen Keane is probably my favorite artist when it comes to drawing. He is an excellent character designer and animator, and can imbibe so much personality into every sketch. His linework is incredibly loose and explorative, yet so beautiful at the same time. I have been doing a copy sketch of one of his drawings virtually every day for the last two months--and here are some of my most recent ones! Left: copying a figure sketch digitally (above); right: copying one of Glen's Tarzan sketches with a full graphite pencil. If you are interested, I highly recommend looking his artwork up and doing a few study sketches of your own!
